Posted: 30 Sep 2008 04:50 AM CDT This is going to get a little hippie and spiritual so hold on. It’s common to focus on emotions while ignoring or having any awareness of what that goes on inside our body. This lack of understanding between the two can lead to health problems, for serious. So if we could keep track of how our emotions and bodies relate, what would that look like? This portable device lets the wearer express emotions with colors by correlating them with biometric data. The idea is to create another way to externalize how we feel in a language anyone can understand. Someone walking down the street with flash red might be upset, in a hurry, or angry. A computer keeps track of your colors, sort of a diary of emotions that can be turned into choreographed motion graphic pieces. It’s an esoteric concept but one grounded in scientifically proven models. We all react to colors and in most cases, can assign specific colors to a range of human emotions. I’d love to see this concept come to fruition. Designer: Sara Forsmark Sara Forsmark |

Posted: 30 Sep 2008 04:34 AM CDT You all remember playing with magnets when you were little right? Just for a little nostalgia, check out the Magnetic Lamp by Seokmoon Woo. It’s designed to look like the classic horseshoe magnet but it glows! Just stick it to any conducting metal (steel is of preference) and the rubber switch attached to the feet switches the light on. Arrange a whole mess of them for a dynamic architectural mural of magnetic lights. Designer: Seokmoon Woo Seokmoon Woo |
Fire Hose Illuminates Your Smoldering Memories Posted: 30 Sep 2008 04:15 AM CDT Because of a fire’s tendency to disrupt a building’s power supply, Firefighters often lack enough light to effectively douse the flames. To help fix this problem, Duck Image co.’s Aurora hose nozzle uses an internal turbine to power eight LED’s that light up and refract off of the stream of water. This not only illuminates the direction of their firefighting efforts to other firefighters and victims, but makes for truly awe-inspiring Lightsaber flashlight battles. Posted: 30 Sep 2008 03:05 AM CDT The “@” is a continuous line that winds around in a circle to create the symbol. Imagine a chair with the same feeling of the continuous looping in 3D form that allows us to sit comfortably while enjoying the design. Award winning Australian designer, Brodie Neill, uses his creative twist in design concepts to create this modern and beautiful masterpiece. The @Chair comes with full back support and a widened seat so as to create the most comforting experience for the user. Designer: Brodie Neil Brodie Neil |
Reading by Candlelight Never Seemed so Cheap Posted: 29 Sep 2008 04:44 PM CDT If you miss the good old days of coin operated phone booths, you might like Jethro Macey’s Coin Lamp. Powered by its greed for loose change, the light forces our awareness of power consumption through personal expense and discourages our appetite for kilowatt hours. That being said, I can easily see this lamp becoming a permanent fixture down at the local Laundromat. Designer: Jethro Macey [ Via: The Presurfer ] Jethro Macey |
