Some Tiny Audio Chops, Some Chops Indeed

Posted: 04 Dec 2008 03:20 AM PST

Boy oh boy do you know a dude who loves portable speaker systems. It is me. And I say that while the best portable system will forever be the giant Ghetto Blaster, smaller and smaller competitors continue to show their chops. What do we have here? It’s JukeBrick: portable music holder, player… and performer. Yon-U Cho makes a little symphony with JukeBricks:

Instant Portable Concert: When more than two Jukebricks are gathered together, every Jukebrick becomes a seperate performer. We can listen to the sound from each instrument or vocal. Exact sound sources [can be determined] from ordinary music using Music 2.0 technology.

Instant Portable Theater: Just attach more than 2 Jukebricks side by side and the screen is extended double and more. Also, as speakers are added, we can enjoy 3-way or 4-way channel surround speakers outside with friends.

Size: 67 x 67 x 16 mm
Weight: 112g
Display: OLED 480×480 Pixels
Touchscreen
Bluetooth, Wireless, LAN
Foldable Mono Speaker Module

The most interesting feature of these little guys is the Table DJing feature in which you have three or more Bricks and place them in order. If they are in a straight line, they will all play the same song at once, then go on to whatever is next on the list on the next Brick, and continue until the end. If they are in a circle, it’s the same effect, but with infinite replay. Finally, if all Bricks are in a jumble, they play shuffled.

Who would have thought?

These are made to knock down a layer between music listeners that’s erected with each new Podling roaming the streets. Share the beats!

The Innards of an Eye; Reformed to Light a Room

Posted: 04 Dec 2008 01:50 AM PST

When an establishment you do own, a hook you must have. You need to be able to make people have an experience when they enter your place of business, one that they want to continue or repeat. With the FLUX, people experience an eyeful of space, formed by light. Matali Crasset (w/assist) brings a new level of astound to “sitting around the campfire.”

Matali Crasset drops light from tendrils of green:

Flux is a rest area set up for the Abitare il tempo in Verona. This is a structure in 3D whose design is inspired by the architecture of the vessels in an eye. A area for the circulation of energy and whose flows carry the light where the seating is arranged in the way that alcoves take up space. Project set up with the assistance of Felice Rossi.

Non-traditionally breaking up a room is super excellent, especially when it means using less material to do more. Recently Yanko’s reported on several similar projects in this respect (at least in the non-traditional room-breaking aspect) : [Solar Verticle Lamp], [Definition of Time], and [90° Furniture] - check em all out!

Swing Your Club and Charge Up Your iPhone

Posted: 03 Dec 2008 01:48 PM PST

Apple much? A device that might work on any “smart” phone, or if you’re talking to Wired’s Kevin Kelly, any handheld “screen.” Take a swing at power with the Handgrip iPhone Charger from our friend Mac Funamizu. Swing for power and plug in device to charge it right up
- plus an added bonus!

Just a little bit funky, like most devices devised by the Mac:

Swing this many times and you get some electricity to charge your iPhone. This time, its motion sensor sends your form data to your iPhone so that you can see your own golf swing animated.

And don’t forget to heed his warning!

Caution: Make sure you are not too close to anyone when playing.

Wii in the screen disasters, anyone?
