Really Really Smart

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 12:45 AM PDT

What a simple solution to getting the measure right; The SmartMeasure Cup it is! It's got an angled display at the handle so that you don't need to haunch over or crane your neck to see the unit-markings of the cup. A backlit LCD display conveys the precise measurements, eliminating guesswork and eyestrain. Intuitive controls offer easy navigation and you can even work your way thru the pre-set ingredient measures for common recipes. It's so smart that it can even do unit conversions for you.

The cup slides out of the casing for easy cleaning, however the real good news is that Taylor Kitchenware has picked up this design and we will hopefully see it in stores by Fall.

Watergate - No Scandal!

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 12:01 AM PDT

On second thought, who’d love to get sprayed by malfunction? On the other hand again, getting hit by a malfunctioning water gate will always be less painful than a turnstile-gone-wild. What we’ve got here is a genuine gate made of water. Jets of water blocking unwelcome parties, access granted by entry card. Fabulously wet!

The idea for this project and design came after a long day at the fairground, where turnstile after turnstile brought on the wish for an updated solution to low-security gatekeeping.

Water is only a psychological barrier. Fleeing, panicking persons can escape through the gate without being hindered by any rigid media.

In addition, such a gate is accessible by any number of people, including those in wheelchairs, those on bicycles, and those who’ve got animal pals (I’m talkin about seeing-eye-dogs and so forth).

I get wet!

Not One, But Two! In One Chair!

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 12:01 AM PDT

Presenting an injection-moulded polycarbonate chair designed and made fantastic by Henrich Zrubec, who hails from sunny Bratislava, Slovakia. Zrubec is an interior designer as well as a furniture maker so you know his mind is on the environment as much as it is on the product. What we’ve got here is a chair that makes an environment wild and deluxe. A red and transparent chair which can easily split into two; one transparent chair, and one red!

Zrubec aims to create furniture that pops with unique functionality. In an environment such as this, the post-Eames world, that is, this plastic duo should fit right in.

Will the White Stripes enthusiast in you approve?

Also in vibrant rainbow colors!

Subtle Contribution

Posted: 05 Aug 2009 12:00 AM PDT

You either need celebrity endorsements or hook the real philanthropist to raise charity funds for worthy causes. A third alternative is thru subtle donations. Situations where you don't even realize that you are parting with some money, yet making a difference in a needy person's life. This coz the amount is so little that it doesn't make a dent as a singular person, but when many people contribute, it makes a big impact. This is the premise of the ½ Bottle Project

Some highlights of this project:

  • When a customer purchases a 1/2 PROJECT beverage paying the same full price for half the stuff, the person gives away the other half to others who receive the monetary value of the half.
  • Since the 1/2 PROJECT uses the half of total sales for reproducing the product and the other half for donations to NGOs, it does not require additional cost for operations. In the process of producing the half bottles, 1/2 PROJECT packs, delivers and sells them through a charity contract after paying the existing companies for the beverage content.
  • The half of the total sales of the project is donated to NGOs and used for 7 types of help which are selected by consumers when they purchase the beverages.
  • The opposite round surface of the bottle includes the name of brands participating in the 1/2 PROJECT.
  • If the full original price of a whole bottle is USD2, there will be some quick facts showing that what kind of actions is possible by using the donated USD1.
  1. Vaccine: You saved 10 children from measles today.
  2. HIV: You saved 3 AIDS patients today.
  3. Water: You provided clean drinking water to 40 people today.
  4. Education: You just provided basic education supplies to 2 children.
  5. Food: You saved 3 children from malnutrition today.
  6. Sanitary: You just contributed 5% to a USD20 latrine for better hygiene.
  7. Apparel: You just presented clean clothes to a child.
