Yanko Design Goes Retro Future

Posted: 01 Aug 2008 01:35 AM CDT

After World War II General Motors let their designers pretty much go hog wild with automotive concepts. They featured these futuristic designs in a series of eight auto shows called GM Motorama, punctuating the new feeling of prosperity and optimism sweeping through the USA at that time. The result was an absolutely mind blowing collection of some of the greatest and strangest concept vehicle designs ever created. Enjoy this peek into your grandparents future that never was. Notable favorites are the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone, 1953 GM Futureliner and 1951 Lesabre. Which are you feeling?

Save the Studs

Posted: 01 Aug 2008 12:27 AM CDT

No we are not talking about saving horny horses or Richard Gere circa 1980. “Cleatskins” are basically Crocs with a friggin’ purpose other than to offend those with taste. Intended as a quick slip on protector for athletic shoes used in football, futball, baseball and golf. Greatly extending the lifespan of the spikes, cleats or studs found on the bottom of all these shoes. They also help to keep dirt and grass from tracking into your car or home. Made from SKINTEK rubber, a formulation of compression molded rubber, and come in two designs - pull-over and slip-on. They come in tons of team matching colors and will retail for about 35 US green backs. Remember: my favorite sporting teams are always better than yours. Go Team!

Wheel of Fortune Telling

Posted: 31 Jul 2008 11:15 PM CDT

Straight off the desk of George W. Bush comes the “decision maker”. Great for deciding foreign policy blunders, words other than “recession” to use while describing the US economy, and most importantly, what’s for lunch. Designed by Pu Tai, the “Decision-Making Compass Kit” is a fun little concept that takes the guess work out of most annoying choices in life. Just write down your choices on the choice pad and spin the choice maker (a pen)…voila! You too can run a country.

The Nature of Caravaning

Posted: 31 Jul 2008 01:34 PM CDT

I hate caravans. In all seriousness, the only good caravan is one that's on fire. I hate driving behind them, I hate seeing pictures of them. I hate the smell of them, and I hate the cramped confines inside them. To sum up I find them offensive to pretty much all five senses and wouldn't be caught dead in or around one. With one exception… Enter Designer Kevin VanBraak, who has cleverly managed to turn the most worthless of specimens into the coolest portable space I've seen in a long time. This one takes some assembly though.

Step one: Drive it to your destination of choice
Step two: Park it
Step three: Fold down the 3 walls
Step four: Install the trees
Step five: Enjoy.

And what really sells it? The windowsill and campfire of course!
