Surreal Becomes Real With Toys And AR

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 04:10 AM PDT

Kid = Never ending Demand For NEW Toys! This equation holds true in all homes, however designer Frantz Lasorne has an excellent project for us that gives a second lease of life to the existing toy collection. Called Augmented Reality, the project combines the joys of virtual reality, imagination and tangible toys.  Using Augmented Reality Tangible User Interface (AR TUI) via head-mounted glasses, loads of imagination and old toys, a new environment is created that allows a child to live his fantasies.

In this surreal situation, a child gets to use his old toys as weapons or tools in a fantasy virtual world where his is the superhero and superpower. The AR TUI allows for the concept to push forth the virtual parameters commonly used in video games like power, life, magic, experience, attack, weapons etc. The objective of this project is to create an imaginative and engrossing environment while still creating value for old discarded toys. Its kinda like tabletop war-game and a strategy video game coming together.

Frantz describes the game play as follows:

- Each player is equipped with a toy standing on a base and Augmented Reality glasses (Head mounted display).
- Before the game begins, players can equip their respective toy with different capacities (health, shield, camouflage, weapons) on a limited number.
- Then, players can prepare together the battlefield (game space) with real objects.
- Both players start on both sides of the battlefield and the party can now begin.
- The game is turn-based, players play successively in a limited time.
- They can alternately move, attack, heal, use stealth, protect themselves with shields, switch weapons etc.
- Each weapon has a specific range of distance and a special power.
- Real obstacles can obstruct the field of vision allowing players to hide themselves.
- The goal is to kill his opponent by strategically using all possibilities of game.

There’s No Yellow Submarine In Here

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 02:24 AM PDT

We are not living in a Yellow Submarine, but you can store your info on a green, white, red or black one if you like. The K-95 USB Flash Drive is waterproof; Jeeze its a submarine for crying out loud! It comes in two models that take in 1GB or 2GB of info at 8 MB/sec. It's Kitsch and trendy, so if you really want to accessorize your comp, go ahead and add this concept to your imaginary collection!

Pen Is Not My Friend

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 01:39 AM PDT

Keyboard and Words are my friends and we often play hide-and-seek when I do my posts. They either hide behind Mr. Wrong Spellings or screen behind Ms. Metal Block's skirt. At such moments I turn to my other pal Mr. Mouse for some help. A right click, scrolling and some serious threatening and pesto they come out of hiding! All this fun is missed when I'm forced to use pen and paper! Wait a minute IDEA tells me they gotta Dictionary Pen for me that's equally fun…hmmm…interesting!

Spell Check and synonyms are my life on the keyboard, so how does IDEA expect me to use the old fashioned pen and have fun? Sorry did I say old-fashioned, coz they tell me that the Dictionary Pen is new age and contemporary. It comes with a display, navi-buttons, an integrated wordlist and speech recognition. This means I simply speak my word into its mic and it will relay the correct spelling and meaning to the display. Wow fantastic! Now all I need to do is get used to the notion of using a paper and pen!

Nooka Dropping Hits Around the World

Posted: 16 Mar 2009 12:51 AM PDT

Wrath on all imitators! Behold a real Nooka wristwatch. Here we’ve got 100% real, accept no substitutes, brand name you can trust, love and devotion produced Nooka watch. It’s a “luxury” digital watch called “ZON.” It’s a world time watch with graph display and number display for time. Note: This post is pre-cursor to our up-and-coming collaboration with Nooka that will ultimately result in a Nooka Giveaway!

First: Don’t get your tube socks in a bundle, I cannot release any details about the giveaway yet. Some things are too wonderful to keep a secret about, and some things even I don’t have the details about.

Second: If you’ll recall, several days ago I published a report on the so-called “Nooka Cuckoo,” and there was an UPROAR about it’s authenticity. You know what it means? People know Nooka.

People know Nooka; they know Nooka is made up of the kind of people that stand for quality. They demanded the real thing! So, that’s what’s going on. The real Nooka is about to release the ZON: 24 time zones, real metal mesh straps, and pixels that pass through the display like sands through the hourglass; (these are the minutes of our lives.) It has a Chronograph, alarm, 37.5 x 45 x 9.2 mm / 22mm wide band, water resistant to 5ATM, and a scrumtrilescent mirrored face.
