One Leg, But Still Can Walk With Pride

Posted: 24 Mar 2009 05:32 AM PDT

I really admired Princess Diana's grit when it came to humane issues like landmines and landmine victims. Did you know that landmines injure 15,000 to 20,000 people every single year? A majority of them have been civilians and children, who have died due to the sheer impact. Those who survive have to deal with a life no less painful than death, due to limb amputations. Efforts like these temporary prosthetic limbs offer very quick support to injured people and help them to not give up on themselves.

The benevolent effort of industrial designer Tillmann Beuscher looks to offer a cheap artificial limb for landmine victims around the world. The prosthesis focuses on keeping people mobile. It is simple to use and easy to adapt into the lifestyle of the users independently.

Tillmann calls his work as a “Design of a temporary prosthetic limb to support humanitarian assistance for victims of landmines and worldwide explosive remaining of war.”
“Only provisionals are everlasting”

Hush-a-by-baby Mommy’s Gonna Con You

Posted: 24 Mar 2009 04:27 AM PDT

I'm sorry! I couldn't help you decoding the cries of your baby, and neither did LT get you the right formula bottle. To make amends I bring to you this Music Pillow that features two speakers and an MP3 player. When you're busy doing chores around the house and the baby is trying to get some sleep, con him with your pre-recorded soothing voice that plays over the speakers. As he lies in his cot, let him believe that mommy or daddy is close at hand.

Shaped like the traditional Chinese Tiger Pillow (which apparently brings fortune, safety and health to kids), may this trick work like a charm in your house!

F- for Fashionable French Diary

Posted: 24 Mar 2009 03:39 AM PDT

A done-to-death tech-spec in concept computer/gaming screens as well as watches is flexible OLED and e-paper technology. Fortunately at YD we have been able to add variety to the platter with items like the Yoga Mat and Music Score Sheet. This time we add an electronic diary to the list. This diary may as well become the all-important Filofax that busy execs live by. Adding the Hermès stamp to the concept simply glams up the piece and I like that!

Sit on It, Serralunga!

Posted: 24 Mar 2009 12:59 AM PDT

Well, what’ve we got here? A versatile little seat contraption eh? Yeah, yeah, that’s what it is. Wait! It’s also a planter! Wait! It’s also a side-table, as they call them. This is exactly the octohedron I’ve been searching for all my furniture-seeking life. Isn’t a strange corner we turn around when at first we seek out a seat for our very own?

Check the pics. Not too shabby. Very much a rounded sort of character. Not one to worry about bumping ones head on. And do be sure to note the color choices!

Type: System of vase, pouf, side-table
Client: SERRALUNGA
Technology: rotation moulding
Year: 2009
Size: 71 x 79 x h32 cm

Oh I just remembered this can also be used as a container. Will it ever stop? These are made of plastic, and I don’t know that they’ve been put into production yet, but I imagine that if you buy them one at a time, they ‘d perhaps come with a flippable cover and cushion, or “pouf” as the AquiliAlberg crew puts it. Sit on it!
