Air Guitar Move Over, I Got The Real Drums To Compete

Posted: 18 May 2009 02:22 AM PDT

Oh how I envied Phil Collins when he sat behind the drums, crooning so sensually while his hands never missed a beat with the sticks! You folks may be the guitar freaks, but there are many of us who totally dig the Air Drum thing. Feeding our fantasy is this UFO shaped Electronic Drums by Petr Kubík. Designed for personal use, this electronic device sits neatly between your legs, more like a bongo, and reproduces magical beats when your hands strike its surface.

With each strike, the surface produces lighted impressions of your hand to highlight the effect. I can picture myself sitting in a dim-lit room, thumping this, beat for beat to the songs that I like, and the magical display of lights corresponding to my mood. This is music heaven!

High-Five, Smokey The Silencer

Posted: 18 May 2009 12:32 AM PDT

I don't know how they manage to do it, but many people are like dorks in the kitchen! They get two left-feet and splatter the whole place with mess! To top it off, invariable the smoke alarm goes off, thanks to clumsy ventilation and cooking! This situation is both funny and radical, coz you can't have the smoke alarm go off for nothing! Rectify the situation with an anti-smoke alarm; welcome Smokey the Remote Smoke Alarm Silencer! No more hurrying to remove batteries of the alarm.

This everyday kitchen timer hosts an XBee chip that communicates wirelessly with the smoke alarm. So when the alarm goes off, simply press his hand to temporarily silence it until the smoke clears.

I like the cute explanation that the designer has given for its timer function.

"When the alarm is not going off, enjoy Smokey as a lovable kitchen timer.  To set the timer, pull his left arm down - an LCD screen on Smokey’s belly will scroll through minutes 0-60."

Almost sounds like a pet in the kitchen!

UPDATE: 3 Weeks Left!

Self-help is the best help, the sooner you imbibe this rule in your life, the faster you will find success. I'm not trying to be preachy here, but this is a fact that most biggies in the industry live by.

If you want to own the best possible mobile phone in this world, my dear friend you're gonna have to design it yourself, because you know what's best for you. We live for the future and this is the theme for LG's Design the Future Competition as well. Partnering with crowdSPRING and Autodesk®, LG is accepting applications from eligible candidates who have the power of transforming their creative thoughts and imaginations effectively to design. It's a chance to do something for yourself that others can benefit from as well.

To help in this adventure, participating designers will get a free 15-day trial pack of the Autodesk SketchBook Pro software to showcase their talent. Of course, the rewards are plenty! The First Place takes home $20,000 Cash Award; the Second Place: $10,000 Cash Award; Third Place: $5,000 Cash Award; 40 Honorable Mentions: $1,000 Cash Award + 1 LG U.S. Phone (A.R.V. of $300).

Official rules can be found at www.crowdspring.com/LG.
Winners will be announced on July 7, 2009 at www.crowdspring.com/LG/winners.

Mesmerizing Flower Lamp

Posted: 18 May 2009 12:00 AM PDT

Tulips are a special bunch of flowers for me; when I see any reference to them, it takes me back to that once-a-decade Floriade Show of Amsterdam. Acres and acres of beautiful blossoms in the scenic heart of Europe! Likewise, this cute Onyx and metallic amalgamation christened "Tulip", captivates you. The USP of this floor lamp is that you get to decide what shape it should take. The four symbolic petals peel away to reveal the LED lamps, which represent the stigma and anther of the flower. Create the perfect lighting ambiance for your home.
