Case Of Old Wine New Bottle

Posted: 17 Sep 2009 03:21 AM PDT

This ain't a hot red typewriter but The Valentine Notebook. A project that was undertaken to explore Ettore Sottsass' claim, that design should not merely be functional but additionally be attractive and emotionally appealing. This new version is a take on the original Olivetti Valentine, which was considered as the ultimate fashion accessory for the working girl in late 60's. While the original was constructed with a lightweight plastic case; can anyone suggest what's best for this modernized version?

Let me set the ball rolling….Flexible display…you next….

Steamy Dishes

Posted: 17 Sep 2009 12:46 AM PDT

Dishwashing techniques are undergoing massive consideration for two factors, one the size and placement of the dishwashers and two, the consumption of energy and water. The Eco-Friendly Steam Dishwasher addresses both these issues in quite a fascinating way. As for the size and placement, it's a counter-top version good enough for a small family or singletons. So no more bending to load the wash. For the Eco-friendly part hit the link.

As the title suggests, this dishwasher uses pressurized steam to dislodge food particles on dishes and sanitize them. A hearty rinse after the cleaning process gives you squeaky clean dishes!

Now for the Eco-friendly part. Since no detergents are used, there is less of "ozone depleting solvents" going around. The water used in the steam and rinsing is collected in the recycling bay and using "Membrane Technology" (read more info on this here), the grime and food particles are separated from the water. The clean water is recycled to be used again for the next wash.

Contaminated water, too harsh for reusing is discarded via an outlet and only then is a fresh load of water consumed.

Ok I Hear Jackie Gleason - DONT MOVE!

The product you see before you is called the “Human Antenna.” Before I explain how it works, an anecdote shall soften the blow: Today, ironically, my Uncle J said to me “did I ever tell you how my first job was as a channel changer?” - his dad’s channel changer. And not only that, his dad’s antenna too. The same concept is here, but with radio, and it’s the whole point, not just the malfunction!

This carpet is made of looms from conductive thread. As you can imagine, it acts something like a Dance Dance pad (I hope you’re with me on this one!) in that your body does the talking. The difference between Dance Dance and this is that it’s not your weight that’s making the connections happen, it’s your mass: your body picks up radio waves, conduction happens between the carpet, the wire, and the speakers, and bam!

You’ve made beautiful music together.

Electric Motorcycle Route 66

Posted: 17 Sep 2009 12:01 AM PDT

What’s got two bald tires, runs on electricity, and is red and black all over? ZEVS! An elegant futuristic electric motorbike by three fellows, one of whom we’ve had up on Yanko before: Bernhard Ranner. Look and see, see and judge weather this bike performs to your aesthetic and atta-glance logistics standards if you dare.

The aim of this motorcycle, as stated in it’s outline, is thus:

“The first electric motorcycle for the real biker.” Designs for “real men”, dusty roads, in the spirit of Harley Davidson, Custom Chopper culture and the good old Route 66 romance.

Now I’m gonna always be the first to say “real men” is sort of an oxymoron where I come from, but let’s go on from there. Given the lack of statistics and logistical data we’ve been give, take this bike apart: will it be safe to have that seat in that sort of proximity to the back tire? Where will the left leg go? Will the red and blackness be outlawed like the Air Jordan Ones?

All these questions may also pale in comparison to the wildness of the design. These things often happen. Write on up! Take a crack at the keyboard. Will it blend?

Designer: Bernhard Ranner

Check out the display page for this bike at Creative DNA Austria - by special request.
