DIY Grass Clock

Posted: 21 Sep 2009 03:36 AM PDT

Researching for this article I came across the Treehugger post on Ustatic’s Wall Grass Concept. You must understand this concept before you can digest the Hour///Gras Living Wall Clock. Based on Ustatic’s theory that growing grass at home is beneficial, this concept clock encourages you to grow either grass or other suitable plants in a stainless steel and glass body frame and hang it on a wall. The hour and minute hand pass over the patch of grass and trim it via their sharpened edges and help maintain a pre-set level of grass-blade length.

In case you sow wheatgrass, you can consume the trimmings but for any other plant, just dispose of the clippings which pass through the grates at the bottom of the encasement into a slide-out container. On maintenance point of view, a watering basin is located at the top right corner of the frame and Ventilation grills run along the top of the structure.

Point is…do you need a grass patch in your home? If you do, then are you willing to do the labor? The only benefit I see of this clock is if you're going to grow wheatgrass (or similar); my parents swear by the benefits of consuming it.

Retro Fitted Sound Station

Posted: 21 Sep 2009 12:29 AM PDT

Cool dude sitting behind the wheels of a vintage car, does your sound system match the classic interiors? Nope? Oh don't get hung up, take in the Tivoli AutoSound. A player that's as retro looking as your vintage! But don't be fooled by looks alone, coz it's as modern beneath the skin. Features include MP3 player hook-up, FM radio and a Blu-ray player with a prominent touchscreen channel selector. Move the selector to the left to access disc slot. It has one more cool feature….

Unhook it from the wooden frame and pull it out of the 1DIN holder to carry it with you to wherever! The built-in Litium-jon battery keeps it running for up to eight hours.

Just a Fraction of a Table

I love clever little thangs. This is definitely a clever little thang if I do say so myself. From the fabulous mind of industrial designer Josh Tuminella comes this table by the name of “Square Root.” I bet you can tell why. It’s made out of less than 10 individual pieces and one of them is “biscuits.” Be there!

The pieces are as follows: walnut, aluminum, biscuits, glue, and 4 screws. It’s designed to be repaired easily in the case of a wild house cat or a serial murderer rampaging through your house and it “absorbs dings and nicks to display the personality and identity of the user.”

I think that last sentence is code for: gets scratches like every other table, but that’s definitely o.k. And it is! Beaten up tables, man, people pay a lot of money for that look!
