Green PC

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 02:42 AM PST

The eco-friendly-crusaders lower your flags for a moment to consider Design Hara's green HTPC. Let me hit you straight with the specs: recyclable green chassis of the PC handcrafted (side panels) from cypress wood from Italy or rose wood from Canada; front cover of this computer can be made from natural sheep leather. The internal segments of the PC are connected by a bolts and nuts structure, making it easier to separate so recyclable e-waste can be removed.

The unit is compatible with Mini-ITX small motherboards, and uses only a third of the energy consumed by desktop computers. It also features HDMI and DVI outputs and has an Intel Core2Duo processor, 4GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive.

Coffee Cup Sleeve

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 02:15 AM PST

Starbucks and company have taught us that hot beverages in disposable or plastic cups are better held with a cup-sleeve. Air Shield Coffee Cup Sleeve takes the venture forth by banking on the principle of air expands when heated. So the lovely little petals that you see on the sleeve kinda blow up to act as a buffer between your fingers and the cup, saving you from a scorching hot cup. At room temperature the sleeve's petals fatten out once again. Nothing extra special but a novelty item for the buzz-generation.

Dandelion Lights

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 01:00 AM PST

Ever had the urge to pick up some dandelions and blow away its wisps? I haven't either, but looking at this wonderful Secret Of Light –Lamp, I wish I could find some dandelion in my backyard! The lamp works in this simple way, shake it gently to switch it on (motion sensors), and blow onto the bulbs to switch it off. Mimic how you would do with the dandelion, only less vigorously.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Classroom

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 12:15 AM PST

Have you seen, heard of, or otherwise experienced the “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?” Well this is basically it embodied in a fantastic school-desk body. Dubbed “Mesa – Classroom of 2015″ by its designer Phelan Miller, this concept is one our children will be wondering how we ever did without. Oh my goodness mother, you didn’t have the internet when you were a kid in school? How did you learn about things?

Oh my goodness mother, you didn’t have Mesa desks when you were a kid in school?

How did you learn how to spell?

Middle schoolers the world over will be tapping their way to intelligence when these fantastic items come into play. The Mesa desk comes standard with grammar check, spell check, dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, and a section for math. Employed by an effective and simple touch screen with tab system, including “freewrite” ability for improving handwriting.

It even interacts with real paper, scanning it and checking it for error in a moment’s time.

Mesa desks are double wide, made for two students at a time. Tall enough to be stood by, short enough to still be realistically accessed by a person sitting in a chair.

Light and stackable.

MILLER if you make these in a way that allows schools to attain them inexpensively, I don’t see why you won’t have created an overnight sensation, changing the way the world teaches and learns.

Lincoln Chairs for 2010

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 12:10 AM PST

Do you know what Lincoln Logs are? They are wooden toys shaped like logs (aka fallen trees) with notches in them so they can be stacked in any number of ways to create log structures. Log cabins is what they had in mind, the same kind US President Abraham Lincoln lived in as a child. This tradition of selling the parts and allowing the customer create the product is continued here, now, today, in a table system dubbed “Molecule.”

Molecule comes in several different sizes and shapes and colors, all based on two main shapes. As the shapes are brought together, they create molecule-like amalgamations, making for unique and easily re-configurable table groups with chairs. All wood veneer with an upholstered pad top.

Flat White Bike for the Weekend Warrior

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 12:01 AM PST

High modulus carbon fiber! Bike for the talented rider! This bike is made for those folks who use their car during the week, but on weekends bike in the mountains, defending themselves against wolves for the greater good of their physical health! How does it help in this? The bike has a lithium ion battery powered automatic stepless gear transmission! What’s that mean? It decides what gear to be in based on the rider’s cadence, power, and speed!

“Get the most out of every pedal stroke.” Certainly!

Designer F.Rudenstam notes that the biggest obstacle in making this concept come to fruition would be the weight of the Nuvinci Hub, a crucial component in the gear-switching part of the bike. He’s confident though that it won’t be a problem for long as technology such as this is bounding forward.

Cut Throat Or Wrist

Posted: 06 Jan 2010 12:00 AM PST

Rarely do we cover jewelry on YD and rarely does a design studio like Art Lebedev come up with some. Presenting here is the Punctirus Bracelet or Necklace, which according to the designers can "never go unnoticed." I daresay I agree, not for the clever styling but for the fact that it goes well around the neck and the wrist. Anything multi-functional these days is a bonus, especially in "expensive" category! But I must add, as a choker the Punctirus gives a vamp-ish look! I love it!
