PC Gets Easy For Gramps

Posted: 28 Jan 2009 01:22 AM PST

Computers and technology still intimidate many elderly and at the rate technology is progressing its sure to make arthritis seem like bliss. Hitching a ride to the techno-highway is the Perch Computer, which incorporates the fun element while offering intuitive navigation. A touchscreen coupled with a key system makes the device easy-to-use and understand. Naturally, visual representations of the various programs are easy to comprehend.

The Perch Keys use induction technology to store information and programs. Place a key on the allotted slot to initiate the process. Data can be uploaded onto the Keys by simply dragging and dropping. Certainly you won't need to be a rocket-scientist to use this comp!

Put the Breaks On. Gold Please.

Boot to the head. Robots, tip lamps, flower frames, slingshots, and now BMX-Style bike boots. You’d better step up your I.D. game if you’re gonna catch up with the Cedric Ragot family. Presenting here a state-of-the-art extreme sport boot that’s got three patents to it’s name. Best believe your foot’s in good shape here with the Genius MX Boot.

The SCOTT Pivot System, the Brake Transfer Pad, and the Sure-Feel Shifter Pad. Boot it up! Looks rather Iron-Man-ish doesn’t it? I’ll take mine in slime-green.

For an EXTENSIVE early review of this boot from last year, check out the forums at [Thumpertalk] - the boot is now in full production. Check out the Cedric Ragot portfolio site to see video and additional process pics!

Babble Headsets Look Cool, But Not In Your Ear

Posted: 27 Jan 2009 09:23 AM PST

I have a love/hate relationship with bluetooth headsets. They have always seemed the fantastic gadgets of the future right up until you put one on and instantly increase your Douche Quotient by 200%.  Case in point, these Babble headsets from Mr. Onuff Studio look fantastic and give us a peak into the variations that exist before a final product choice is made. I suppose we’ll have to wait for aural implants before truly appreciating the wonder of bluetooth without the stigma of pompousness.

World’s First Camera Lens Calendar

Posted: 27 Jan 2009 07:25 AM PST

I’m sure some college student already had this idea but photographer Sharad Haksar beat ‘em to it with a real tangible product you might see in stores soon. The World’s First Camera Lens Calendar as he puts it, using the most venerable sign of a professional photographer to display the date. Each ring controls an aspect of the calendar but watch out 2032 because that’s when the world will end, at least in this iteration since it can’t go any further.

It’s not clear whether it’s powered or requires some very dexterous manipulation but if the price is right, I could see it becoming one of those, “what do you get somebody who already has everything” gifts.

Zaha Hadid Created This Hot Mess

Posted: 27 Jan 2009 07:16 AM PST

I’ll keep this straight forward. This shoe is the result from a collaboration between renowned architect Zaha Hadid and Brazilian fashion label Melissa. As with any Zaha Hadid design, the sweeping conundrums are rightly apparent and I hate it. It took Hadid 2 years to come up with this? I’m aware those organic arcs hug the foot perfectly but whenever architects try to create fashion, they birth deconstructive genius like Rae Kawakubo or total disasters like this concoction.

The shoe comes in black, charcoal grey, green, yellow, silver, white and purple colorways; available in Australia May 2009 (a-hem Shane). If you live outside Aussieland, hit up the Melissa website to order online.
