When Riding A Bicycle Just Isn’t Green Enough Posted: 16 Feb 2009 02:25 AM PST If you’ve ever felt the urge to attach a fender to your bike just so you can wrap it in environmentally-aware bumper stickers, then the Green Shadow might be for you. Developed by Mr. Onuff Studio, the bicycle shouts your deep inner connection with Gaia while simultaneously tracking mileage, heat rate and calories through an on board computer. I couldn’t find details on the materials used, but I’m going to assume that fresh ivory, baby seals or endangered pandas were somehow involved, helping snag that valuable pro-earth, anti-animal demographic. LG Synthesis Belongs On Your Keychain Posted: 16 Feb 2009 01:40 AM PST Another beautifully rendered phone concept from our favorite 16 year old designer, Andrew Seunghyun Kim, his LG Synthesis concept presents a simple touchscreen based smart phone. While subverted in this post’s title, the phone’s hole is actually intended as a low-tech viewfinder and docking port on its tree-like recharging station. Beyond that, it’s solar powered headset and Kate Moss-like form factor make this the most refined thing to have come out of any 16-year-old I know. Designer: Andrew Seunghyun Kim No Tags |
The Devil’s Upside-Down Guitar Posted: 16 Feb 2009 01:19 AM PST Hear the words of Yi-Luen Tan, this guitar’s “an evolution of man's quest to create a figure and form that resonates sonically, visually, and philosophically of the times in which he resides.” Whoa doggy. The balance is different - less weight in the neck. But the ability to tune from the body, is it worth it? How well will you strum? At what cost a new ax? The tuners are in the base of the body. Roller bearings are used for bridge, Boron Polytrinate for the nut. Boron Polytrinate is, and I quote, “It is a very resonate chemically graphed polymer (15% more sustain than steel)” - so says the folks at Graph Tech, makers of the String Saver, which also employs the same material. Wood sourced from Queensland (go Australia!) Lace Alumitone pickups for their 70% reduced weight (over “conventional pickups” - so says Tan), and clear tone. Some words from Tan
I suspect problems with tuning. More than this, a difficulty with getting used to the weight by “guitar veterans.” But the look! The look! Just look at it! Designer: Yi-Luen Tan No Tags |
Posted: 16 Feb 2009 12:41 AM PST Why do ski boots have to hurt? Shouldn't skiers enjoy the same comfort as snowboarders do? The right design can make it easier to release pressure from the buckles when needed without having to undo the bottom of your pants. The POC Tarsus boots eschews buckles for laces connected to a tension wheel you dial in for the perfect fit. I’m a snowboarder, not a skier so I can’t comment on how comfortable this might be. Any skiiers wanna chime in? Designer: Nils Löventorn No Tags |
Posted: 16 Feb 2009 12:36 AM PST I’ve seen folding headphones before but this one is a little different. There are 2 joints from which you can adjust the headphone size and pivot them into a moon shaped packaged. The final collapsed package keeps the delicate speakers away from would be sharp objects and makes the entire thing much easier to pack. Designer: Hanyoung Lee No Tags |
Philips Astounds Us With Innovative Stuff Posted: 16 Feb 2009 12:05 AM PST Three more reasons to look at Philips with admiration: The Kitten Scanner, The Temparin DenTek and SBH 7110 Stereo In-ear Bluetooth Headphones. Innovative products that will help make our lives better and provide us with sense and simplicity. The Kitten Scanner If as adults we can get nervous as hell for simple procedures like CAT or CT scan, can you imagine the amount of anxiety a child will go through if he were to undergo one? The Kitten Scanner is an attempt by Philips to reduce this tension that children can undergo during such stressful times. Interactive role-playing and story-telling format incorporated into the machine, teaches them about what to expect during a scan. It helps them to understand the process much better by making them comfortable with the technology and therefore reducing fear. The Temparin for DenTek Dentists are the necessary evils of life. I say this not because I despise them, but because I am petrified of their drilling machine. ANYTHING to keep me away from it, for example this Temparin line of tooth repair solutions for DenTek. I am definitely going to turn to them for a temporary relief for lost fillings, inlays or crowns. It's user-friendly and comes with custom applicators and individual doses. Stereo Bluetooth In-ear Headphones SBH 7110 A gorgeous looking in-ear piece that features a touch interface! Transition between calls and music is not an issue with it. Simple and efficient, the technology matches its looks. BTW the three featured have the honor of picking up an IF this year. Design: Philips No Tags |
Lights And Sound Show Right At Home Posted: 16 Feb 2009 12:00 AM PST Disco comes home with these shimmy speaker spheres that hang on the walls like a mural or artwork. Adorable and very sexy, the lights patterns displayed by the set go in sync with the rhythm and beats of the music being played. Beyond awesome is the graphic bars representation that corresponds to the equalizer of the speakers. The woofers coordinate perfectly with either your PC or Home Theater and put on an amazing lights and sound show for you. A ring-sized finger-touch controller helps you navigate the setup. Using this controller you can even do the usual stuff of play/pause/rewind etc. and manipulate your PC/ HT. Designer: Morteza Faghihi Morteza Faghihi |
