Detect The “C” Scare In Advance Posted: 17 Jul 2009 12:05 AM PDT Ok this is a true story, my aunt who happens to be a doctor managed to detect a pip-sized (malignant) lump in her breast just coz she was a proficient doc who did this kinda stuff on a daily basis. Many of us women are neither that lucky nor skilled enuf to detect lumps of any kind! To help us out is the Luna Breast Care Device, which is a personalized intimate unit that allows us to examine ourselves in the comfort and privacy of our homes. This handheld unit comes with intelligent biomedical technologies that can "feel for lumps on the human breast as to detect abnormalities under the surface of the skin." The two-part unit includes a charging interface with a screen and a soft screening pad interface made of flexible, bio-elastic materials with multiple sensors that process the info. A cumulative record of all the screenings is stored for further reference, which could come handy at the apt moment. Animate For Obesity? I Don’t Think I Agree! Posted: 17 Jul 2009 12:02 AM PDT One of the reasons behind developing the Animate project was to motivate the obese-TV-Video Games-addicted-generation to move their butt and get some exercise. I don't buy that theory. My point is, if Wii Sports couldn't get me toned and slim, then nothing can! However, besides this Animate is cool gadget that kids on the block would love. It's got a camera, MP3 player, watch band, communication feature and videogames. When you play the spy-detective kinda game, you get the opportunity to win some cool avatar credits that that motivate you to be active and on your toes! Designers: Hugo Kretz & Marc Haldemann PS: This is a James Dyson Award Entry, so you may want to vote it up here. |
Shape Changing Plate Washer and Drier Posted: 17 Jul 2009 12:01 AM PDT This thing right here is a rollercoaster for plates. Not only does it catch plates on a conveyer belt, wash, and dry them, it converts them to whatever shape you wish - plate, bowl, whatever! Using Electrostatic Flocking, the shapes of these dishes can be changed. Each plate changes shape via electrostatic contact points and can thus they can be washed and stacked with supreme simplicity. Constructed of recyclable and color customizable polypropylene, one does not have to get their green-person tattoo removed when they use this product. HOW DO THE PLATES CHANGE SHAPE I know you are asking. Well, check it out:
SIMPLE right? Put the dirty plates in the machine, program the machine to make the clean plates you’ll need for the next meal, and come back later when you’re hungry again! The machine does the cleaning, drying, and transforming! Designer: Teo Kai Qiang *Actually you can only transform the plates into bowls, dishes, or nothing. Transforming the plates into machine guns and owls is not allowed! |
Posted: 17 Jul 2009 12:01 AM PDT Ah lean back, lean back. Two seater three wheeler electric cruiser. It’s the Electropositive. It’s a tilter. It’s got an electric brushless motor in each wheel. Carbon fiber “exoskeleton”, photovoltaic transparent polycarbonate body panels. And it’s got a lean. It’s got the mad craziest lean you’ve ever seen. How do I lean, you might ask? When I’m on my super-fast crotch-rocket ninja motorcycle I’ve just got to kind of -lean forward and left or right, right? Well with the Electropositive, you’ve got to lean back. I’m gonna see how many times I can say that in this post. When the driver pulls the handlebar toward himself or herself, an electro-hydraulic servo lifts the gravity center by acting on the piston that connects the swing arm. When pulling on the handlebar is lessened, the vehicle stabilizes due to the lowering of the COG. Got all that? Keep on cruzin. Lean back. Designer: Ionut Predescu |
How Many Pushups Does Your Battery Do? Posted: 17 Jul 2009 12:00 AM PDT Me? I can do 20 reps at the most, but my Energizer does plenty more…or so says the guys at Mint Design. Although I haven't seen the ad, apparently once there was this one, which showed a battery come out and do about a million pushups; to show how long it worked. That left an impression enough on the designers to come up with this Pushup Mint Battery #2. Now it's designed for no apparent reason, but purely for the fun of pitching one battery against the other, to see who emerges the winner! Designer: mintselect @ mintpass |
Balls Clean My Air, Seriously! Posted: 16 Jul 2009 11:20 AM PDT These “Air Balls” as I call them, are purifiers you can move room to room. They use a form of ionization with a photocatalyst complex sterilizing collection technology. Por que? This enables the unit to not only filter the air of fine particles, smoke and odors but also eliminates nasty bacteria and viruses. An active carbon filter even removes nasty gases like formaldehyde and VOC’s. The whole contraption doubles as lighting and the design is supposed to fit in any decor. The display stand is actually a snazzy charging cradle. Designer: Taejin Choi |
Posted: 16 Jul 2009 11:06 AM PDT Gluos is a non-invasive blood sugar meter with a detachable sensor for more flexibility. As a diabetic you really want to measure fast, easy and unobstrusively. The small device measures sugar levels using a display with an LED scale between a low result and a high result in different colors. Low sugar levels are shown in red. A normal level appears in white white and a high level goes orange. It stores the result and transfers it via bluetooth to a mobile phone and computer so your doctor has instant access. The flexibility comes in how you measure your levels. A detachable sensor clips to your earlobe and gives you auditory feedback when your levels get to high. The same info gets transfered to your phone and computer. If your blood chemistry gets out of hand, a call can be made via your mobile to alert your doctor. Designer: Tobias Förtsch |
All The Single Ladies, Put A Switch On It Posted: 16 Jul 2009 10:51 AM PDT Girl buys new pack of fresh batteries. Girl doesn’t realize unused batteries lose their charge overtime albeit slowly but still, it’s like money slowly pissing away. If only there were a way to keep the internal charge from being active until you needed it. Girl figures it out. Put a switch on it. The science is simple. I mean you’re essentially just switching the anode off to prevent current from flowing but does this actually work? Energy doesn’t seem to be something that likes to stay put. Maybe one of you could speak to it, figuratively that is. Designers: Ren Tong & Luo Jie |
