Posted: 12 Aug 2009 12:05 AM PDT YD isn't the ideal place to discuss suicide, but that's the only inspiration that one gets from the Mint Light #5 You Only Live Once Lamp. The hangman's noose works in a creepy way as well; tighten the noose to turn it off and loosen it to brighten the lights. Almost poetic in a way….life is a precious gift, if you let your worries depress you, its like the tight noose of this lamp–DARK. Enjoy what you have and it brightens up your life! Posted: 12 Aug 2009 12:02 AM PDT What do we want? Rocking chair! When do we want it? In under 20 seconds! Thats what you want. I know you do. You’ve got a chair that sits flat on the ground, you’ve got a rocking chair, but what you really want is 2 in 1. The “Fotel” by Budapest, Hungary designer Peter Vardai is just the loving spoonful you are looking for. And it’s got nice colors, too! The aim of this project was to create a chair that no only looked good inside and out, was also comfortable in both places too. Not only that! But the chair had to be a rocking AND an armchair and be comfortable in both transformations, too! The frames is made from carbon, the seat of comfortable elastic bands. Good for people who sweat profusely. I shall put this in my “transformers” file. Maybe in my living room, too! Designer: Peter Vardai |
Posted: 12 Aug 2009 12:01 AM PDT Humor aside, it's quite tough to aim a heavy Lifesaver tube, accurately to a drowning person. It would be much easier to throw him the Rescue Stick, which is a baton shaped contraption. Contraption it is, coz it's strings undergo a chemical reaction when they hit the water; they dissolve to release a horse-shoe shaped float. So basically the baton reacts to the water and becomes a life-saving device. As a back-up plan, in case the reaction fails, the tube can be inflated manually. Details:

Posted: 12 Aug 2009 12:01 AM PDT The saddle. What’s more classic than the saddle. The HORSE saddle, I should say. There ARE things more classic than the RAT saddle, which of course is ridden by the common cowboy cricket. No, I am talking about the human-to-horse saddle here, and what we HAVE here is a design that re-interpreits that. With a nice, shiny new, web mesh. This web mesh we speak of offers not only much better ventilation for the horses back, but makes for a much nicer ride human-wise on Mr Ed. Each of these “Saddle Classics” saddles is created custom for the horses back using sophisticated saddle planket with integrated sensors to measure each little detail of the horses frame. And it’s made in pretty colors. How nice! Designer: Ben Cselley |
Posted: 12 Aug 2009 12:00 AM PDT A designer professor once told me that the key to a good design was innovating on an existing one. Kinda like improvising and adding a new dimension to the product. Take the casestudy of keys; until now the focus has been improving the locking mechanism and safety features. I don't think many (or any) have considered re-designing the styling of a key per se. Uber-cool transportation designer Greg has. His SUPER COOL Designer STAT KEYS collection are stylized blank keys that can be cut to fit majority of American locks and Kwikset locks.
