Posted: 17 Nov 2009 02:00 AM PST First glance you can pass this off as a book of matches, but that isn't what the "Five Minutes" is all about. A book of 10 small candles that comes handy in many everyday situations! Why, I can think of 3 situations right this instant: 1) When you bring in the cake but forget the candles. 2) Emergency lights-out. 3) In my travel bag, right next to pocket matches and paper-strip soaps! How many tricky situations can you come up with? Designer: Poketo [ Buy it Here ] |
Posted: 17 Nov 2009 01:00 AM PST Specs-wise, it's really up to a designer's imagination; that's the advantages of concepts. Realistically speaking, playing around with the materials used in an innovative way is kind of restrictive. Radio FM follows the norm of an object by appearing to be this rigid ceramic piece, but in reality the body is an enigmatic fluid PVC sail and is flexible. The controls are cleverly hidden underneath the device and simple; a button to switch it on and a dial to tune in the frequency. Can anything get simpler than that! Quick Facts:

Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:46 AM PST A common misconception about the hearing impaired is their inability to experience the joy of music. They may not hear and process sound audibly but they certainly can feel it. In fact, studies have shown the sense of touch is heightened allowing them to perceive music in a totally different way. SOUNZZZ is a visual, audio, tactile MP3 player designed for the hearing impaired but universal enough for all to enjoy. Sound is translated into a series of vibrations. One hugs the device to feel the music and it even plays an equalized light show along with the sound. A very unique device I would love to see on store shelves. Designer: Sungwoo Park |
Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:15 AM PST That’s just crazy, what are you saying, that this isn’t just a gigantic cooling unit for my 1980’s jumbo computer? I predict that in the future, all chairs will be bigger than houses and will only be affordable by the super rich! But for now, we’ve got this amazing “Hi-Tech Couch” inspired by just that, cooling ribs from a computer. But wait, why does the preview pic for this post have the chairs staged in a graffiti filled hallway? Don’t ask me man, I just work here. These bits of fantastic furniture were made to wow people entering into office buildings and high-tech atmospheres. Materials used to create these beasts include recycled metal boards, tiers, and foams as back support – for real super comfort! When made, available in an abnormal variety of colors and sizes! What Does Design Work Smell Like? Posted: 17 Nov 2009 12:01 AM PST Mine smells like a cat, and sneezing. It’s kind of like a survival course. But for Vivian Chun-Yen Wang as a design student, it’s the school’s natural odor, of course! Her project here deals with the olfactory portion of everyday working in a non-culinary environment. Why non-culinary? Because they’re basically the only ones that already have their smells mastered! What this project consists of is a nice wooden box and five vials of smell. Fragrances. Each one “smells like” something from the school for which they were made, HDK. Three are made of scents extracted from materials found in HDK, while the other 2 were inspired by the atmosphere in the school. Stink or no stink? Smells good!
