Get connected without wires. The Wireless-N Home Router gives you a wireless connection that’s twice the speed of Wireless-G so your whole family can share a broadband Internet connection and access files from almost anywhere in the house.

Wireless-N technology lets you surf the web from the living room, play on-line games from the bedroom, and listen to your digital music in the kitchen.  The extra speed lets you connect more devices, and move files faster. And Wireless-N works great with your older devices, too.

My home network is powered by their gear and I had the opportunity to speak to Chris Landry, head of worldwide design not long ago. They’ve come a long way and I can’t thank them enough for being so generous. It’s wonderful to see a huge company see value in design and aspire to do it better than everyone else in their industry.

If you want to learn more about Linksys, Eskild Hansen, head of the European Design Center in Denmark, will host a breakout session at SolidWorks World 2010, discussing the dynamic relationship between Linksys by Cisco and 3D model printing.

Keep up to date on special prices and promotions on Linksys by Cisco gear, along with the latest news and events in the home-networking world.

Sticky Phone

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 01:30 AM PST

The concept behind the Sticker Phone is quite simple; most of us tend to place our mobile phone near windows for better signal reception. So this concept takes it a step further by adding a solar panel to the back of the phone and giving it a slight arch so that it can stick (via suction) to the window glass for some sunshine. The phone is made with polysiloxane (silicone) and can be made feasible if some tries it.

Creative Music Interaction

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 01:00 AM PST

Touchtable is a PMP that is interactive and intuitive. It features a large controller wheel that surrounds the screen and performs just like a turntable. It's even sensitive to touch and pressure and when you use it in combo with the surrounding function buttons, it facilitates absolute user control over a track, through precise position, timing and pitch manipulation.

Features:

  • One function button controls the simultaneous switching to a secondary track, allowing the user to mix records on the fly, or to scratch samples over a track.
  • Through the cue output, each track is directed to either the left or right headphone, the beat and pitch can then be matched, a cue point created, and the combined tracks mixed out the main phono output.
  • Two devices can also be combined wirelessly at the click of a button, to act similarly to the traditional DJ set up, just at around 1:8 the scale.
  • This function also allows for multiple users to mix and scratch tracks together, combining their own Touchtable devices through one output.
  • The device not only adds interaction to the personal listening experience, but can be used for performance.
  • The Touchtable can be plugged into a computer, where it acts as a midi device, working with built in software, allowing complete creativity and control over customization and music creation.
  • Touchtable allows for complex interactions, comparable to a complete DJ set up, however the device itself is very simplistic: designed for ease of assembly/disassembly, interchangeability and miniaturization through technology. It is not only ultra portable, but cost effective, easy and enjoyable to use.

In the Air, Taste the Taste

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 12:15 AM PST

Say hello to “Vino Arielle,” a wonderfully simple wine aerator made for the accentuation of all wines. It’s a lovely black and transparent object you can easily use, clean, and store just like a cup. Made by those who love to taste their wine, smell their wine, experience their wine. But that’s not to say it’s for expensive wine purchasers – the Vino Arielle does not discriminate.

As you can see, the V.A. is about the size of a wine cup, and requires no more effort to use than pouring the wine through a sieve.

It’s just the wine aerator you need.

And it’s totally classy.

Rip Your Environment Apart

Augmented reality! That’s what we’re dealing with here. This right here is the “Scout – Portable Pedestrian Navigation Device” and it’s intended to be used by people traveling about, connecting then with local knowledge, wisdom, and GPS information to guide them. It’s a digital compass is what it is. It encourages “uninhibited exploration, discovery, documentation, and sharing.”

Can you imagine the games you could play with this lovely little thing?

The Scout has a screen, a camera, and a scroll wheel click button. As you know from using computer mice for years and years now, that’s all you need! With this device you could start a whole social-media revolution, bringing the people back to the streets!

Lemme know what you think about that.

Another interesting thing is the information Matt Marrocco has given us! In the submission we’ve got here of this project, we get all of the programs used to create it: Photoshop, Illustrator, Rhino, and Hypershot. That’s awesome.

Do you agree with giving up your tools along with the design?

Very big questions in this very simple design.

A Hundred and Fifty Glasses

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 12:01 AM PST

How much wine and water can one fellow drink? 150+1 to be exact. This chandelier’s name is “Cut Glasses” and was designed and constructed by one John Harrington. I think you’ll find this to be quite the lovely headpiece for any fabulous room, and no less breakable than any other mass of glass you’re bound to have up there. These glasses aren’t made for drinking liquids out of though, only to drink in the light and turn the light on it’s top, bottom, and side.

The Cut Glasses Chandelier has two sizes made to order from the man who makes them. He’s perfected the way to set either 150 or 300 glasses in place to sit above your table and refract light!

Who would have thought!

The +1 in the intro stands for John himself, him “being the final craftsman who has brought together generations of others to create a truly unique work.”

YD On BBC

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 12:00 AM PST

Santa came early to the YD office, bearing the good news that we had been featured on BBC (largest broadcaster in the world)! Gushing at the news, we all hopped over to the Webscape feature hosted by Kate Russell. She captures the essence of Yanko Design being a design hub, and we have nothing but our readers and the wonderful designers whom we feature, to thank for this attention. So Thank You guys for showering us with so much affection. Check out the video, YD gets featured 1:11 minutes into the clip. Note how she’s covered some really recent posts.
