Posted: 19 Oct 2009 05:54 AM PDT Maybe it's the Pagan Symbols that have inspired it or the fact that Yin and Yang need to co-exist in every design form, but the truth is Love Connection Mobile Phone Concept doesn't remind me of the relationship between male and female; neither the dent, nor the projectile! It however is a sweet attempt at being something different as an MP3 player + Phone + Camera + Entertainment System. The two pieces come together to be used as a video display or the touchscreen interface of a phone. Split them up and one platform can be used as a MP3 player and the other as a phone. The cord between the two interfaces is retractable and the gadget can be hooked to earphones as well (in case you don't want to use the built-in speakers). A different kinda Yin and Yang! Posted: 19 Oct 2009 05:26 AM PDT Quack Quack! Ok I won't kid around this time, but I think Mac Funamizu has matured pretty much in his design sensibilities. The CD player is called Quackie, but the concept looks decent enough for the tweens who endorse stuff like the Mickey Mouse MP3 players. Quackie is thus: There’s a round body that rolls and a black speaker. The speaker is attached to the body at the axis and it rolls around the body. Simple functions of play/stop/next/back and volume up/down are included. To pump up the volume, you roll the body so that the “beak” opens up; shutting the beak powers-off the system. Click the black speaker once to skip to the next song and click it thrice to go back. Wow Mickey n Donald…a winner team! Designer: Mac Funamizu |

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 12:02 AM PDT Bloody ol’ genius that’s what we’ve got here! It’s a new way to take off a tire. Stick with me here, this is really neat. You take this “Turtle Wrench,” right, and you attach it to your wheel: it connects to all of your wheel bolts at once. Now the wrench has four arms sticking out, one of them each a wrench that correlates with a bolt. You drive forward one full rotation, and as you push forward each wrench, it loosens a bolt. Did you get all that? You should, because it’s flippin awesome. Look at the pictures below and tell me if you know what’s going on here. Also there’s a prototype whipped up by the designer already, so hopefully I can have one by late winter — I’m not a fan of that first crank, if you know what I mean. Designer: Fabiano Pottes |
360 Degrees of Green Pod Chariot Posted: 19 Oct 2009 12:01 AM PDT Four wheels, chariot stance driving position, and no regrets. That’s what’s up. Alexei Mikhailov has a green pod of goodness here for us, the future-world city speedway single-person-transport. It’s called the VW Pholeum. It’s got an external wheel base which allows a 360 degree range (eliminating the antiquated parallel parking blue), fully immersed rubberized tires and independent spoke arrangements allowing for full bump absorption without the use of suspension. And more!? Yay! The controls are all at your hands, mirroring that of a game controller (supposing generations in the future will have fully changed over to hands-only controls of basically everything.) Memory Plastic panels and body which will allow for super-simple deformation after collisions or scratches (auto repair!) With further ability to be melted down and re-molded should irreparable damage occur. Chassis made of aluminum alloy with honey comb shape, bio-degradable rubber for the tires, brand new air bag system. In each pod is six airbags. Two bags in the pod and one on each of the tires. Powerhouse utilized hydrogen fuel cell technology, using “future fuel” to generate enough power for the electric motors situated in each wheel. And yes! I know you were waiting for it, the reasoning behind the name.
Lovely, yes? Designer: Alexei Mikhailov |
