Hang Me Some Tea

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 04:17 AM PST

If the Hanger Tea were to be submitted as an entry to tea-packaging-awards (if such a thing existed), I say it would win hands down! I can't think of a better or more obvious way to pack teabags than this hanger & T-shirt design. It's a funny take on how the simple motion of hanging a used teabag on the rim of your cup, be done. Color-coded for different varieties, the hangers are rather cute and so are the tea-shirts!

Et Tu Dyson?

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 01:00 AM PST

Before you critics go "Dyson Copy", give designer Zizi Chen a chance to explain her take on this centrifugal wind driven fan that blows air from a circular band. Chen is a designer from China and her version was devised early last year, even before the Dyson announcement in October. Yup, its student work; but then again let's not gets into who-inspired-who and instead concentrate on the dynamics of the Wind Circle.

Designed using the principle of fluidics, Wind Circle redefines the traditional concept of the electric fan. It is composed of the stator, the coil, the large OD (outer diameter) thin shell bearing, the rotator, and the vanes. The mixed-flow centrifugal fan is driven by the hollow motor, which blows air out through the circular-shaped air outlet. At the same time, the air in the centre of the wind circle is dragged in to flow forward. The vanes have a high linear speed in order for them to have a high working efficiency. Consequently, the wind circle will have a much better wind energy conversion efficiency. The controls are located at the top of the circle, which makes it convenient to operate. The controls consist of a touch-switch and a frequency converter speed regulator, which control the power, speed, and left and right swing respectively. (The Wind Circle can swing to the left and right over the central base.) At night, the LED on the control will be illuminated.

Remind you of anything?

Here is a rare post, where we have a concept (as you see above) and a live iteration (see DYSON) in front of us. What we’d like you designers, engineers, and otherwise design-minded individuals to do is leave us indisputable comments on which design holds more fire!

Only the facts, folks.

The Quest for Real Unique Police Bikes

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 12:16 AM PST

Last time we had a design by Ciprian Frunzeanu, it was insane. In a good way. Today he’s re-inventing the standard Police bicycle. At the moment, there’s four main brands that produce Police-specific bikes: KHS, Fuji, Marin, and Smith+Wesson*. THey all look and function basically exactly like… well… every other bike. What Frunezeanu does here is try to set the P-bike aside completely.

I love my donuts too, and I look forward to the day when police are no longer referred to as pigs, but more police on bicycles is a thing I’d like to see. Especially in parks, and around downtown in the big city.

Check out these concept renderings below and take note of the following:

Unique design, 3D branding of the bike for the Police.

Storage space accessible by the rider without getting off the bike.

Built-in GPS mapping (seeing a lot of this in designs lately, yes?)

Siren (activate by switch on left handlebar).

Honeycomb structure on the wheels for low likelihood of popping.

Pedals that power the electronics on the bike.

Carbon fiber body and wheel spokes.

A Pack O’ Heat-Em-Ups

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 12:10 AM PST

And just when you thought you were going to have to use that pesky park-grill again. Or start up a fire that’d burn down the forest. No way! Here’s what you’re gonna do: whip out one of these! “Stoov!” It’s basically what amounts to a magnet you program, stick to your pot, and let heat up. Sounds reasonable enough?

Goodness gracious me, magnet cookers with touch screen controls, what that Mathieu Baele won’t come up with next. This Stoov project is made for cooking where cooking would otherwise be a hassle. Bring your pot, bring your charged-up Stoov, and you’re ready to get cookin!

Internal battery, robust shape for travel, electromagnets, touch-screen activation. Charge up to 6 Stoovs at a time with the adapter. When power is sent through the Stoov, it sticks to the pot. When the power is shut off, the Stoov releases itself politely.

Definitely not for turning on and sticking on to unsuspecting cars.

Definitely not!

Skate Hard in Destructos!

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 12:01 AM PST

These shoes right here are called “Destructo Sports Action Shoes!” Oh my goodness. I know, and you know, that if you do a lot with your feet, your feet shells explode. And when I say feet shells I of course mean shoes. Your shoes are worthless! They come apart at the flick of a knife! But not anymore, now you’ve got these amazing piece-by-piece strong shoes, by Thomas Balaguer.

When you wear Destructo, you wear quality. Branded with the dreaded Nike scythe, these shoes are made to take some damage. Like “rubbers” of the past (your grandpa might have worn rubbers), these have replaceable covers. But where rubbers were used only for snow, Destructo shoes are used for action, sports, and action sports. Skateboarding, street hockey, biking, and yes, of course, parkour.

Interchangeability in the upper and lower parts.

Recessed shoelaces.

Foam padded collar.

Padded tongue (STI FLO2 Foam).

Tricot lining

Synthetic leather outer.

And the replaceable part, the Phylon soled, 400 NBS outsoled lower.

I’d love to get my hands on these to paint some pretty pictures. Really!
